Meet Martin

Retired mail carrier. Keeper of postcards. Deliverer of good news.

Martin may have retired from the postal service, but nobody told him he had to stop delivering smiles.

After spending decades carrying letters, packages, birthday cards, and the occasional mysterious parcel, Martin knows that sometimes the smallest things arriving in the mailbox can mean the most.

With his familiar navy cap, wire-rimmed glasses, and trusty leather mailbag, he’s a welcome sight around Long Story Lane. And if you happen to catch him making his rounds, don’t expect a quick conversation. Martin has never met a neighbor he couldn’t stop and chat with.

A Lifetime of Deliveries

For Martin, delivering mail was never just about getting something from one address to another.

It was about connections.

He remembers the excitement of birthday cards, the anticipation of letters from loved ones, and the joy of receiving a postcard from somewhere far away.

Those little moments stayed with him long after his retirement.

Martin’s Mail Shack

These days, Martin spends much of his time in his little shed-turned-post office, surrounded by postcards, envelopes, old postal keepsakes, and a coffee cup that rarely stays empty.

The centerpiece is his enormous map of the United States.

Every time a piece of Long Story Lane travels to a new destination, Martin has another reason to reach for his box of pushpins.

He takes his map seriously. Very seriously.

He also takes his coffee seriously, although nobody has ever accused him of being particularly serious about anything else.

Still Delivering Smiles

Martin is also the neighborhood’s official delivery man for The Rambling Squirrel, making sure Sherman’s latest news, gossip, and questionable investigative journalism finds its way into the right hands.

He may no longer work an official postal route, but he’s still doing what he loves: connecting people, sharing stories, and making sure nobody feels forgotten.

Because to Martin, a card isn’t just a piece of paper.

It’s a little reminder that somebody, somewhere, is thinking of you.
