Meet Hank

Coffee’s always on. Opinions are complimentary. Help comes with a little grumbling.

Hank is a man of few words, unless you’ve asked him a question he thinks deserves a proper explanation. Then you might want to pull up a chair.

A veteran, former farmer, and longtime construction worker, Hank has spent most of his life figuring out how things work, why they stopped working, and whether somebody should have known better in the first place.

Usually found in his trusty blue work clothes with a cup of coffee nearby, Hank believes a good day’s work is something to be proud of, and that most problems can be solved with patience, the right tools, and a little common sense.

The Neighborhood Fix-It Man

Around Long Story Lane, Hank has earned a reputation as the man to call when something breaks.

A loose porch railing? Hank will take a look.

A stubborn lawn mower? He’ll probably get it running.

Something that worked perfectly fine until somebody decided to improve it? Well, now you’ve got his attention.

He may shake his head, mutter something about people making things harder than necessary, and ask who worked on it last, but chances are he’ll stick around until the job is done.

And if the repair takes longer than expected, somebody had better put on another pot of coffee.

Life with Nita

Hank and Nita make quite a pair.

She’s small, sharp-witted, and perfectly willing to tell him when he’s wrong. He’s practical, stubborn, and equally convinced that his way makes the most sense.

Their conversations can sound suspiciously like arguments to anyone who doesn’t know them.

But the neighbors know better.

Underneath the teasing and occasional disagreement is a partnership built on years of shared experiences, mutual respect, and knowing exactly which battles aren’t worth fighting.

Hank has learned that being right and getting the last word are two very different things.

A Good Neighbor to Have

Hank isn’t much for grand gestures or unnecessary attention.

He’d rather lend a hand than make a speech, and he’d much rather show someone how to do something than do it for them every time.

He’s got a soft spot for people who are willing to learn, a healthy respect for hard work, and a dry sense of humor that sometimes takes a moment to register.

When the neighborhood needs help, Hank is usually somewhere nearby, coffee in hand, ready to figure things out.

He might complain about the inconvenience.

He might tell you exactly what you did wrong.

But he’ll probably help you fix it anyway.

On Long Story Lane, Hank is proof that a good neighbor doesn’t have to say much to make a difference.
